Founded over 11 years ago and currently led by a small and dedicated team, the Trust for the National Mall is a 501(c )(3) organization that stewards private support to design and deliver modern and resilient solutions that will transform the visitor experience and preserve the historic legacy on the National Mall.
As an official partner of the National Park Service, the Trust works to raise private funds, advocate for public funding from Congress and provide educational and engagement opportunities to support the restoration and improvement of the National Mall. With over $800 million in needed repairs and upgrades, the National Mall has the highest need of any National Park across the country. Contrary to popular belief, only a small portion of these needs are funded by Congress. The Trust works to augment this need with private resources and civic engagement.
The Director of Membership Fundraising will lead the development of revenue generating initiatives to attract small and mid-size individual donors, including the annual fund, peer to peer fundraising events and the Women’s Leadership Committee program. The Director will manage and grow a portfolio of donors and secure new donors to generate increased revenues for the organization and its mission. The Director will collaborate with the executive team and development team colleagues to achieve the desired fundraising goals.
A. Establish goals and implement annual strategies and initiatives to grow the individual donor base for the organization
Ensure goals and strategies are attained and annual and quarterly benchmarks are met, including financial targets.
Develop cultivation and peer-to-peer fundraising activities, including donor-hosted dinners and other small events.
Collaborate with team members to engage cross functions to ensure the individual membership strategy compliments the other fundraising initiatives to maximize support to the organization
B. Grow the Annual Fund
Develop strategies and benchmarks to identify and engage new donors, as well as increase renewal rates.
Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure.
Follow up cultivation activities with appropriate gift solicitation, reporting, and stewardship of donors.
Utilize CRM software (Salesforce) to track and manage donors including generating reports.
Direct procedures to ensure effective collecting, recording, accounting, acknowledgement and follow-up on all gifts and pledges.
C. Manage and Grow the Women’s Leadership Committee
Cultivate and manage annual chairs and executive committee.
Develop audience segments and strategies to engage and build new members.
Manage a pool of active members for annual renewal.
Develop a list of prospects to meet an assigned individual fundraising goal for major donors.
Bachelor’s or advanced degree.
At least five years of relevant experience working for a non-profit developing a donor base or a for-profit in membership business development.
Proven success in the management and implementation of fundraising /business development strategy and systems.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Database management software experience – Salesforce preferred.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
A team player with a positive can-do attitude and an understanding and appreciation of stewardship and cultivation.
Approaches ideas and/or challenges and solutions with creativity and innovation.
Results oriented and able to juggle multiple priorities.
Available to travel as required for meetings with donors and prospects.
