Founded over 11 years ago – and currently led by a small, passionate and dedicated team – the Trust for the National Mall (TNM) is a 501(c )(3) organization that stewards private support to design and deliver modern and resilient solutions that will transform the visitor experience and preserve the historic legacy on the National Mall.
As an official partner of the National Park Service (NPS), the Trust works to raise private funds, advocate for public funding from Congress and provide educational and engagement opportunities to support the restoration and improvement of the National Mall. With over $800 million in needed repairs and upgrades, the National Mall has the highest need of any National Park across the country. Contrary to popular belief, only a small portion of these needs are funded by Congress. TNM works to augment this need with private resources and civic engagement.
The Trust Interns play an important role in the day-to-day programmatic operations of the organization that will support efforts to raise funds and awareness for the critical needs of the National Mall. The Interns will support several key functions of the organizations including Donor Cultivation & Stewardship, Government Affairs, Special Events, Volunteer Engagement and Marketing & Communications. Interns will have the opportunity to learn and apply their skills to the activities to help the Trust achieve its annual goals and objectives.
Intern responsibilities will be focused on several of the following categories depending on the needs of the organization during the internship timeframe, including but not limited to:
1. Donor Research, cultivation and stewardship
Research & writing briefs;
Data inputting and updating as relevant;
Learn and utilize the Salesforce donor management software.
2. Government Affairs
Schedule meetings and logistics with congressional offices and local government officials;
Prepare bios and prep materials for meetings and events;
Prepare and send letters and conduct follow up calls to secure Congressional Honorary Host Committee;
Monitor policy issues and legislative news.
3. Special Events
Prepare and send materials to select stakeholders;
Assist with fulfillment of sponsor benefits;
Assist with confirming logistics and execution of event plans for a variety of special events and tours.
4. Volunteer Engagement
Assist with logistical details of volunteer service days;
Assist with logistics and outreach for the Volunteers in Park program with the National Park Service.
5. Social Media and Marketing
Research and tracking social platforms
Writing briefs and content for social platforms
Assist with website updates
The Trust desires candidates who exhibit the following qualifications:
Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and handle multiple projects simultaneously, as well as contribute as a team player.
Have a positive attitude, supportive and engaging personality and are eager to contribute to a small and hard-working team.
Can demonstrate proficient use of MS Office applications.
