ENHANCING THE VISITOR EXPERIENCE

VIPs assist NPS Rangers in explaining the National Mall and Memorial Parks’ rich history and the exciting future we will realize from implementing the National Mall Plan.

VIPs play several roles such as informing and guiding our visitors to services and special events, providing administrative support, and preserving the National Mall grounds.

The virtual training program teaches volunteers interpretive skills, customer service, and National Mall living and built history. The program gives volunteers an opportunity to learn, gain new skills, and meet people while also allowing our visitors to have a more engaging and active experience on the National Mall.

A Model of Public Service

With the critical support from the Trust for the National Mall, the volunteer program at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial and is now used across the park. In partnership with the National Park Service, the Trust has introduced innovative systems to combine scholarship with storytelling to enrich the visitor experience at the newest memorial on the National Mall. The multi-generational core team of 50 volunteers are expert-trained to bring the memorial to life. The ideas the Trust introduced at the Eisenhower Memorial, which will soon expand to other sites, are, above all, centered on the visitor. Our approach is as much about interpreting history as it as about building community. After all, what brings you to America’s Front Yard is what brings us together. Come, share your story, and allow us to welcome you on your next visit to the National Mall.
