Kevin Sturtevant

Chief Development Officer

Kevin Sturtevant, CFRE is Chief Development Officer for the Trust for the National Mall. Kevin leads a team of professionals that focus on increasing financial support for the Trust.


The diverse revenue streams within Kevin’s portfolio include online and offline donations, events, sponsorships and grants. Before joining the Trust in January 2017, Kevin served as the chief development officer for United Cerebral Palsy (UCP), one of the nation’s non-profit leaders in promoting a life without limits for individuals with disabilities. In that role, he was in charge of all fund development and communications/marketing efforts for the national organization.


Kevin has been working in fund development for nearly 25 years. Before his tenure at UCP he led the fund development teams at the public interest law firm Public Justice and at World Food Program USA, the US-based support organization for the United Nations’ hunger relief agency. In his long career he has also worked at Ketchum, Inc. as a senior consultant and senior vice president, leading fund development efforts for campaigns ranging from $1 million to $500 million.


Kevin’s areas of expertise include Planning and Analysis, Fund Development, Volunteer Involvement, and Leadership and Management. He graduated from American University with both a Master of Arts in Non-Profit Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.


He is deeply committed to volunteer service and to his profession. He sits on the Board of Trustees for the Association of Fundraising Professionals DC Chapter (AFP DC), the largest chapter in the US of the association representing fundraisers. He was President of the Chapter in 2016, and is now Immediate Past President. He achieved his Certified Fund Raising Executive designation more than a decade ago. Kevin has served on several other boards as well, including the American University Performing Arts Program Advisory Council and as President of the Williams Syndrome Association WSA).


Kevin is a life-long resident of the metro DC area, and he and his family reside in suburban Maryland.


Fun Fact: Kevin got his start in events working on the world-famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, where he once was stuck atop a three-story turkey.
