A National Park Service expert in fundraising partnerships and historical preservation has been named the superintendent of Washington’s National Mall and Memorial Parks, the Park Service announced Monday.

Gay Vietzke, as superintendent at Fort McHenry in Baltimore, managed the construction of a recently built $15 million Visitor and Education Center. She will oversee, among other sites, the Mall, the Lincoln and Jefferson memorials, and the Washington Monument.

Vietzke, 47, replaces former Mall superintendent Bob Vogel, who last year was named director of the National Capital Region.
