WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 14, 2015) – The Trust for the National Mall announced today that Abraham H. Foxman, John Rutherford Seydel, II and Craig R. Stapleton have been named to the Trust’s Board of Directors.

Foxman is national director of the Anti-Defamation League, while Seydel is a partner of Davis, Pickren, Seydel & Sneed, LLP, and secretary of the Turner Foundation, and Stapleton is senior advisor to Stone Point Capital and a director of George W. Bush Presidential Center and the 9/11 Memorial and Museum Board.

The Trust’s board leads efforts to raise awareness and vital funds to restore, improve and preserve America’s Front Yard for future generations. As members of the board, Foxman, Seydel and Stapleton will help promote this mission, oversee the strategic direction of the organization and ensure it is well managed.

“We are thrilled to welcome such outstanding leaders to our board,” said Caroline Cunningham, president of the Trust for the National Mall. “Each brings a wealth of professional experience and passion for the restoration of the National Mall, and will help us take our fundraising and awareness efforts nationwide.”

The new board additions were made following the announcement of the Trust’s new grassroots movement, which focuses on building national support and stewardship for the National Mall. The movement officially kicks off this fall with the Landmark Music Festival for the National Mall held September 26-27 in West Potomac Park.

Since 1987, Abraham H. Foxman has served as the national director of the Anti-Defamation League, the world-renowned leader in the fight against anti-Semitism, bigotry and discrimination. A survivor of the Holocaust, Foxman was a member of the President’s United States Holocaust Memorial Council, appointed by Presidents Reagan, Bush and Clinton. He also has been a participant of official presidential delegations to special events in Europe and Israel, and has authored numerous books. Foxman has a degree in political science from the City College of New York and holds a J.D. from the New York University School of Law.

John Rutherford Seydel, II is a partner in the firm of Davis, Pickren, Seydel & Sneed, LLP, a corporate practice focusing on environmental and conservation law, commerce and residential real estate, nonprofit organization structuring and operation, and general for-profit business matters. Seydel is co-founder and chairman of the Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, Inc., chairman of the board of the School of Ecology at the University of Georgia, and former chairman of The Conservation Fund. In addition, Seydel is a trustee for the National Parks Conservation Association.

Craig R. Stapleton is senior advisor to Stone Point Capital and has served on the board of directors for companies including Abercrombie and Fitch, Carlile Bank and Flamel Technologies. Stapleton served as ambassador to the Czech Republic from 2001 to 2003, and as ambassador to France from 2005 to 2009. In 2009, he received the French Legion of Honor as a Commander by President Nicolas Sarkozy. He currently serves as a director of the George W. Bush Presidential Center and the 9/11 Memorial and Museum Board, and became a co-owner of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team in 2009.

Foxman, Seydel and Stapleton are enhancing a committed 20-member board, which functions as an oversight team and a national voice for the Trust to raise awareness among current and prospective donors while articulating the value of the National Mall as a symbol of our nation’s pride and history.
