General Dynamics CEO Phebe Novakovic and Former Ambassador Francis Rooney Join Effort to Restore Mall
WASHINGTON, D.C. (November 6, 2013) – The Trust for the National Mall, the official non-profit partner of the National Park Service dedicated to restoring and improving the National Mall, announced that Phebe N. Novakovic, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of General Dynamics, and Francis Rooney, former U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See, have been named to the Trust’s Board of Directors.
The Board of Directors serves an invaluable leadership role in the Trust’s efforts by guiding and advancing the Campaign for the National Mall, which is raising the vital funds to restore and preserve the National Mall for generations to come. As members of the Board, Novakovic and Rooney will help ensure the Trust is well managed, oversee the implementation of organizational strategies, and promote the Trust within public and private networks.

Phebe N. Novakovic became chairman and chief executive officer of General Dynamics, a market leader in aerospace and defense systems, on January 1, 2013. Prior to her appointment, Novakovic was the company’s president and chief operating officer. She currently serves as a director of Abbott Laboratories and Project HOPE, as well as an advisor to the National Military Family Association.
Francis Rooney served as the United States ambassador to the Holy See from 2005 through 2008, appointed by President George W. Bush. Currently, he is the chief executive officer of Rooney Holdings, Inc., a diversified investment company, and Manhattan Construction Group, a civil and building construction company. Rooney is also a trustee of The Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress in Washington, D.C., and is a member of the Council of American Ambassadors. He is a graduate of Georgetown University and Georgetown University Law Center and a member of the District of Columbia and Texas Bars.
Novakovic and Rooney are joining a committed 17-member Board of Directors, which functions as an oversight team and a national voice of the Trust, raising awareness for the Campaign for the National Mall among current and prospective donors while articulating the value of the National Mall as a symbol of our nation’s pride and history.
