Visitors crowd the Tidal Basin to see the Cherry Blossom Trees

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The Cherry Blossom Trees around the Tidal Basin are in its 'puffy white' stage, which is nearly peak bloom. Visitors are crowding the Tidal Basin and enjoying the view.
Char Heppner says, "We feel so lucky we live so close we can hop down here and enjoy such history."
There is a short window of opportunity of getting a peak at the Cherry Blossoms but for these folks, they timed it just right. Hollie Szamosfalvi an Alexandria resident says, "Gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous. We're going out of town tomorrow so it was now or never."
Another visitor says, "When you see it for the first time it's so magnificent. You have to see it at least once."
The colors of the fluffy flowers bring smiles to the small ones.
"The Cherry Blossoms make me so happy because they are white and pink," says a 3-year-old girl.
This is the latest peak bloom schedule in at least a decade. The average peak day in the last 20 years has been March 31. Last year the peak day was April 9th.
