Washington, DC – Caroline Cunningham, President of the Trust for the National Mall, issued the following statement regarding the National Capitol Planning Commission’s decision on Thursday to approve a $5.2 million project design to restore and renovate the dilapidated Washington DC World War I Memorial, the only DC-specific memorial on the National Mall:
“We are delighted that the DC World War I Memorial has received funding for its restoration. This little jewel on the National Mall has long been neglected and we are grateful to Congress and to Secretary Salazar for allocating funds through the stimulus package. We are delighted that the National Capitol Planning Commission approved these renovation plans so that this project will move forward and the DC World War I Memorial can be restored.”
