The 11th annual National Book Festival, hosted by the Library of Congress, returns to the National Mall on September 24th and 25th. This is the first year that the event will be held over the course of two days due to the event’s increasing popularity. The festival will feature three new genre pavilions: State Poets Laureate, The Cutting Edge and Graphic Novels. More than 100 authors will be headlining the festival; among them are David McCullough, Dave Eggers, Terry McMillan, Siddhartha Mukherjee, Jennifer Egan, Garrison Keillor and Toni Morrison.
Festival goers can attend book signings and readings presented by the authors, as well as panels where fans can meet and discuss the books with the authors. In addition to the authors who are headlining the festival, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will be in attendance. The festival will feature a number of special events for children. There will be a scavenger hunt, book readings and a summer reading program for kids entitled “One World, Many Stories.” All families in attendance will receive a “Big Box of Books” to jump start their reading adventures.
The National Book Festival begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday the 24th; Saturday’s events end at 5:30 p.m. The festival will resume at 1 p.m. on Sunday the 25th and will conclude at 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
