Cherry Tree Endowment

Cherry TreesIn 1912, more than 3,000 cherry trees were donated in the name of the City of Tokyo to Washington, DC.  In the spirit of this grand gesture, the Trust for the National Mall invites citizens and public-spirited organizations to donate funds for the replacement and maintenance of the cherry tree grove that surrounds the Tidal Basin and adjacent areas in East and West Potomac Parks.

The Cherry Tree Endowment was created to provide reliable, significant monies on an annual basis, in perpetuity, for the replacement and maintenance of the cherry trees. The Endowment was officially transferred to the Trust for the National Mall from the National Park Service in 2010.
